Weekend Wrap Up

You guys. I got the flu shot on Thursday...never again. I had such a bad reaction to it. My husband had to come pick me up and take me home to rest. I stayed home to rest/spend some extra time with my little booger and by Friday night I felt better but now I have a dang cold....but I'll take that over what I experienced on Thursday any way.

Anywho...Saturday was my husbands birthday! He is the ripe ol' age of 32. We had our community garage sale first thing Saturday morning and my husband was pumped for it. He likes a good deal and making money. Landon woke up earlier than normal so I snuck out with him to grab some donuts and coffee for my husbands birthday and for our neighbors. The sun was just coming up as we were leaving and it was so beautiful. But not as beautiful as what was to be seen on our way home from good ol' Dunkin Donuts...

Hot air balloons coming up with the sun!!!!
This is happiness, people.
I drove 10 minutes past our house to an empty parking lot and parked. Landon and I sat on the hood of my car, ate donuts and waved to the people in the baskets. We watched about ten hot air balloons float across the sunkissed sky and it was beautiful. The Saturday that started out so great, ended up being on of those can't get nothing done/whiney/no nap/ kind of days but as I crawled in bed at 1AM, I found this picture and it made me remember that we can't always have good days, BUT we can always have good moments.

Sunday was a perfect day. Everyone was rested and happy. Landon and I spend the morning together and the afternoon with a best friend. We ate cheeseburgers and Godiva chocolate. We rode Merry-Go-Rounds and drove with the windows down. We laughed, a lot. I got my husband and his best friend a round of golf at this new fancy golf course about an hour away, and they spent the day there...

So all in all. It was a spectacular weekend!

We're alive and well and have great memories to look back on!!

Happy Monday, ya knuckle-heads!

Sc-aarrrgghhh-ves!

Feeling like a pirate today.
Must of been all that time I spent around water this weekend.
Which didn't allow for any scarf wearing...but I'm still in the fall spirit, so here ya  go!
Found all these bad boys on Modcloth.
Enjoy.

Fall-la-la-laaaaaaaa!!!

It's no secret that Fall has arrived. All I smell is pumpkin spice and all I see is orange!!
Fall hasn't always been a time of year that I look forward to. Growing up in Florida, summer is and has always been where it's at....so while growing up, Fall didn't mean much except for Halloween was coming. As I've gotten older (sadly), Fall has become #2 on my list of favorite times of year and for one reason, the cozy feeling it brings. The warm apple cider, the fuzzy sweaters, the laughter from the children who are playing outside more because heat exhaustion disappears, and the thought of families coming together makes me all warm inside. Who doesn't like to feel warm and fuzzy inside?!

With that being said I made this little fall board with a few of my favorite pins!

Enjoy my friends.
Hopefully I have some friends out there. ;)

Whirlwind

Oh mylanta. Literally.
Our life has been a whirlwind lately and I have been so sidetracked it's not even funny.
Somehow I need to regain my focus because I have A LOT to do.

Real quick recap on what's been going on...
My husband got transferred to Baltimore (Yay because my twin lives there!)
We decided to sell our house.
My husband's transfer got cancelled. (Yay! Boo!)
We decided to still sell the house so it goes on the market next week!
Our realitor thinks it will sell fast so now we have to find a new house.
All of this while I am 7 months preggo.
The baby's room is not even done and I am beginning to wonder if I should even worry about it at this point. Pure craziness right now. Oh, and the holidays are coming and our sweet Landon's 3rd birthday. My world has been rocked and even though I can barely think straight, I am so beyond grateful for these blessings that have been given to us! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Jesus!!

Back at it.

Sorry y'all. I went all MIA on ya!

Took a weekend trip to my twin sister in Baltimore for the long holiday weekend. We had a fab time -- we ate a lot, talked a lot, drove a lot, walked a lot and shopped a lot. I think I am still recovering.
My favorite place in the city is Blue Moon Cafe -- they have captain crunch french toast that is killer. Literally.....you kill yourself trying to finish it all.

more on the trip tomorrow.

Nursery #2!

This is what I have decided on for nursery #2;

I am using the same furniture and bedding from Landon's nursery but decided to go with some jungle animal touches instead of the ocean theme I used for Landon. I am digging the neutrals with the blues. I bought some "green tea" panels from West Elm for cheap and I am hoping it all comes together nicely. If not, I'll put them somewhere else in the house...

Soaking it up.

While the calendar almost says September and usually that means fall, football, pumpkin spice diets and cute scarves.....it means nothing to us Floridians. Absolutely nada. Fall doesn't arrive here until Winter arrives up North -- somewhere between November and December, usually. So, while we have been soaking up the last few weeks of "Summer" I am pretty sure we will have plenty of more days that look like this....

Hope you've all enjoyed the warmth that summer brings!

Mama

I stumbled upon this Pinterest board yesterday & as I started looking through the pictures I had the biggest smile on my face.....but then suddenly I was sitting in a puddle of my own tears. Motherhood is so bittersweet and I wish I had a full time photographer following me and the little one to capture moments like these....

Grow with God!

My Small Group and I are starting a new book next week called "Seeds" by Priscilla Shirer and I am utterly thrilled for it! It's about living in the word. Something I find hard to do with a full time job and a toddler. Lord help me! I co-lead with a sweet Mama named Magen from St. Louis! She moved here a year ago with her husband and two boys and we instantly clicked! It's funny because I had been praying for months for new friends. While that sounds bad, it's not. I just needed a different group of women who shared some of the same interest as me. Interest like changing poopy diapers, chasing toddlers around, eating left over bananas and half eaten pb&j's for lunch....women who understood when I came to study with ketchup on my shirt and my hair in a bun, women who wanted to hang out at jungle gyms and community pools, women who didn't judge me by my dirty house and stinky car. Women like me. God answered that prayer for me in such a big way and I am forever grateful for the women he has freshly put in my life. So so grateful! Thank you Jesus!!! With that being said, my sweet friend Magen and I decided to do a "Garden Party" to kick off our Seeds Small Group Study and I am so excited. I can find any reason to bust out the stripey straws and pom poms. Here is the "garden party" inspiration I have came up with!

And I also love this print!

Weekend Wrap Up

Why is that there are five days between Monday and Friday,
but only two days between Friday and Monday?
Bull crap.
Total Bull Crap.
I don't like it, if you can't tell.

This weekend had some high's and low's, as usual.

High's
Celebrated my sweet friends engagement with a bridal shower & bachelorette shenanigans
Rapping Old McDonald had a Farm with Landon
Adding some killer dance moves to the above mentioned rapping session
Lunch date with my little man @ Red Robin
Ice-cream after the said lunch
Putting Landon to bed, only to return upstairs to find him sitting in the dark on the stairs. (so sweet!)

Low's
Falling down in heels/dress in front of the valet at said bachelorette shenanigans..
with open wounds to prove it
Sore legs from wearing heels for 6+ hours and falling down
Sleep deprived toddler who wakes up cranky
Leaving dinner and having to stop at McDonald's to eat dinner

All in all, it was a good one! Happy Monday!

Fruity!

I found this yummy food blog via Pinterest and I am obsessed.
I am also obsessed with fruity desserts so I hit the jackpot!

That's HONEY GRILLED WATERMELON.
Honey. Grilled. Watermelon.
I'm salivating.
I'm also pregnant.
Remember that. ;)

We are enough!

Read this .

The things that don't get celebrated on Pinterest that much. They're the just a mom things that I write about and celebrate. They're the things that most people probably won't see.
They don't see you stand in the bathroom and gather your resolve every morning. They don't see those of you who mother alone without much support. They don't see the trips to the car back and forth and back and forth. They don't see you counting to ten a dozen times before noon. They don't see you look at the bank account and sigh and try to figure out how to make three meals with what's left in your pantry. They don't see you walking into the principals office, doctor's office, friend's house and defending your child.

They don't see bandages placed on knees. Kisses on foreheads at night. Pillows pushed just the right way and blankets tucked to the perfect demands. Laundry folded and folded and folded. Tears that sting your eyes as your keep going. Dinners prepped over the stove. Times of laughter over silly things. Hair brushed and pulled back into pony tails. Prayers over wandering teens. Prayers over little babes. Nights spent sleeping in a chair holding a sick child. Days where the house is a wreck but you're reading books. The brave smile on your face when you're weary.

Those things matter.

Those things are the little things that add up and and up and up.

I say those things are enough.

Seriously. Go away!

You guys, we live in Tampa, Florida and it has rained everyday for like the past 3 months. I am not being dramatic, which I sometimes have the ability to be, I am dead serious. We don't mind it when it's dinner time and nap time and bed time but when we have plans, it stinks to high heavens. Like last night when I wanted to go to Home Goods, it started pouring and then came the lightning that cracked every five seconds. I wasn't about to risk my life for some new sheets, even though I did contemplate it for a good 15 minutes.

Sorbet on a cloudy day!

My sisters friend is having a girl around the same time I am and she is using grey and coral as the nursery colors so I whipped this up for her. I find it totally refreshing. Like sorbet on a cloudy day!

It's not you. It's me.

Since last week, I was bound and determined to find out the who/what/where and why's to why my sweet little boy was starting to act the opposite. So, I hopped on the interweb and searched "toddler tantrums" until my fingers fell off and my eyes went cross-eyed and this is what I came up with...

Angry, frustrated, and sulking children ALWAYS need their parents’ or caregivers’ help and understanding.
When children are acting out, caregivers can assume the following:
  • They are doing their best.
  • They are acting out their hurt feelings that they don’t yet have the skills to manage.
  • This is their way of showing you how they feel or how they have been made feel by you or others.
  • They need you to teach them what they can do about their big, often overwhelming feelings. They need you to make them feel safe and loved so they can get their big feelings out with big tears and/or words, and show you how they feel.
  • Their acting out is symptomatic of unmet needs.
  • They need your love the most when they act the least deserving of it.
  • They need your help to feel happy, peaceful and balanced again.
  • They need to regain a warm, loving connection with you again.
  • They would be more co-operative with you if they regained that warm kind connection.

I also found this brilliant website that spoke straight to my heart.  I am new at this and I am always researching to understand the different ways we can handle our children. Honestly, spanking or time out DOES NOT work for my son and because of that I vowed to stop doing it. It didn't feel right in my heart and I would feel SO GUILTY afterwards. With that being said, both of these sites talk about a different way to parent. To me it seems like a guilt-free way to parent so I am all about it. For the record, I haven't had the chance to try these recommendations out but when I do, you all will be the first to know. To me, it feels right and it makes me breathe a little easier at the thought of not having to be so forceful with my son. Janet Lansbury's site is awesome and I could of stayed on there all night reading her articles. Please check her out!

Brillant. Just Brilliant.

...that moment when you see something on Pinterest that makes you say WOW! Why didn't I think of that?

This was that moment:

Seriously. How brilliant is this??!!
Definitely keeping this filed away in my DO IT TO IT folder!

Kick it.

I am having the hardest time kicking Landon's kicking habit.
Like I am seriously going nuts.
He is 2 1/2 and kicks me or anything else when he is tired or mad. He knows how to say "I am tired." and "I am mad" so he knows how to verbally express how he is feeling, but right after he says that WHAM! a swift kick to my thigh or head or whatever else is near by. Ugh.
Anyone have any tips on how to break this?
I do not want to spank my children for everything. While I do believe in spanking, I don't think it should be used every time a child messes up. I think it should only be used for major crimes. With that being said, I will firmly tell him that "kicking isn't nice" and "I understand that you are mad, tired, upset but we don't allow kicking..."but he still continues. Driving me bonkers people.
B-O-N-K-E-R-S!!!!!

BOYS, BOYS, BOYS!!!

After finding out that we are having another boy, I was SUPER thrilled. What's not to love? Boys love their Mama's, they are easy, they don't require much, and I have tons of boy stuff! The fact is, I grew up with five women in my house. We had the best times, but there was a lot of emotions flying around and I happy to be missing that in my own household. I was made to mother boys. I am at one with them. I don't mind dirty floors and fake tattoos. I don't mind breaking up fist fights and cleaning up blood. Boys are best friends with each other. No cat fights. No drama. No dates. No weddings to pay for me. Can I get an amen?!

With that being said, we have started working on the nursery. It's painted a pretty muted mint/blue color so I am keeping the color and using this color combination to fill in the details.

Here is a little Treasury Board I put together on Etsy this morning of some stuff I have found over the last week that has caught my eye!

Looking forward to this new adventure!
